Bridge Documentation

This bridge's future is at risk!

Bridge Status: This bridge is at severe risk for collapse.

This bridge has been long abandoned, and the substructure at the west end is failing, and is slowly pulling the west span down with it. Thus, this bridge is at high risk for collapse, although not due to the historically significant trusses which remain in excellent condition and are feasible to relocate and preserve elsewhere. This bridge is clearly the work of the Groton Bridge Company. It has the distinctive design details of the company including pedimented sway bracing, the particular lattice portal bracing design used by the company, and cast iron pin washers. The truss spans appear to be unaltered from the original design and materials. The bridge was found eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion A and C.
