This ca. 1870s bowstring appears to be the work of the King Bridge Company of Cleveland, Ohio. This example uses a rolled beam for the top chord rather than the built-up box beams the company usually used. For unknown reasons there are more of these less-common King bowstrings that used rolled beams for the top chord in New York State than in other states. It is not clear if this is simple coincidence of the bridges that happened to survive across the country or if there is a reason for this, such as a company agent that operated in the state and was a promoter of the rolled beam top chord design variation. This bridge was likely built in the 1870s. Inventory data listed a construction date of 1922 which might indicate this bridge was relocated here, or it might be referring to some sort of rehabilitation, or it might simply be an error. This bridge is noted for a heavy skew. Skews of any amount were uncommon in 19th century metal truss bridges.
