This bridge is a type of bridge called a corrugated multi-plate steel arch bridge. It essentially is somewhat like a large corrugated metal culvert. The bridge design was developed by Armco in the early 1930s. The curved sections of corrugated steel form the arch ring, and earth fill is provided on top. Stone facing was often used on the spandrel wall for decorative purpose. Another unusual detail is the circular object with a hole in the center set into the stone above the pier. It appears that this may be a a millstone that was inserted into the stonework, perhaps for decoration. The hole in the stone appears to too large for a tie rod but looks as though it could be the right size for a mill drive shaft. Other identifying features include grist grooves and wedge slots in the millstone. It is unclear why this mill stone has been inserted into the bridge, but it might be a mill stone from a mill that may have once been located near the bridge.
