This bridge is noteworthy because it is so short. This bridge is about as short as truss bridges were built. Shorter spans would have been steel stringer (beam) bridges. This bridge has the fewest number of panels possible for a Pratt truss, which is two panels, something only achievable via a half-hip configuration. Possibly because small spans tend to be less expensive to replace, very few small truss spans like this remain in existence. The plaques on this bridge are missing, but were located on the top of the top chord. This plaque location, plus other details such as the design of the pin nuts, all strongly suggest this bridge was built by the regionally prolific Groton Bridge Company.
