New York State has a larger number of steel deck arch bridges than most states, which means that steel arch bridges are just a bit less than rare in the state. This is one example. It stands out among the state's surviving steel arch bridges due to its concrete arch approach spans and abutments all of which are faced in stone to give the appearance of a masonry structure. The stone facing, as well as the detailing in the railing of the bridge were all designed with aesthetics in mind, due to the location of this bridge in the Ausable Chasm park, a beautiful section of the Ausable River noted for its canyons and waterfalls.
