This bridge is a rare example of a railroad pony truss bridge. Moreover, it is rare both as a double-intersection Warren pony truss, and also as an extremely old example of a metal truss bridge with riveted connections in this region. The structure features riveted connections, v-lacing is present on some diagonals. There are wooden approach spans at the north end of the bridge. The abutments for the bridge are stone. The bridge is abandoned, and apparently demolition has either been considered or perhaps even planned for this bridge. The destruction of this highly significant historic bridge that is not in the way of anything would be a wasteful and devastating loss.
This bridge is also a reminder of a very interesting history. This bridge is in its original location, but it did not always cross Collingwood Boulevard, because Collingwood Boulevard did not always exist. The reality is this bridge originally crossed a canal that once was located here. Later, the canal was abandoned, and Collingwood Boulevard was built in its place, turning a canal bridge into an overpass.
