Bridge Documentation

This bridge was built in 1879 as part of a two span bridge over Loramie Creek on what is today State Route 66 (40.359273, -84.373978). It was moved after damage in the 1913 flood to the Brandewie farm (40.345810, -84.420760). It was used for a time there, before eventually being bypassed by a realigned driveway, and abandoned. It was picked from this location and restored by Bach Steel in St. Johns, Michigan and moved to this park in Sidney in 2020. It is a rare and highly significant surviving example of cast and wrought iron bowstring truss bridge, which was a common bridge type during the 1870s. They are today among the rarest of historic metal truss bridges. This bridge built by the prolific Ohio-based King Bridge Company is an outstanding snapshot of this period in ttransportation history. The City of Sidney deserves to be thanked for choosing to preserve and reuse this beautiful bridge in its park. In this location it is both functional and a landmark attraction in the park.
