View Archived National Bridge Inventory Report - Has Additional Details and Evaluation

This bridge was severely altered when it was widened in 2000. The alterations were severe enough that for a while the bridge no longer appeared as a truss in the National Bridge Inventory: it was instead listed as "Steel Other" built in 2000. As of 2011, the entry in the inventory is now listed as a steel truss however. The hip verticals were cut from the truss during this project as well. The bridge remains as an aesthetic structure, and it does provide a glimpse, if a fuzzy one, into an earlier age of bridge construction. However these alterations severely diminished the value of the bridge. Widening projects on historic metal truss bridges are always extremely invasive and should be avoided whenever possible. However, such a solution is indeed far better than demolition, and in some cases may be the best option for preservation.
