Oklahoma is known for having some of the longest simple-span pony truss bridges in the country, and this is one of them. It has been bypassed and preserved for pedestrian use. It consists of 19 state-standard pony truss spans.
A historical photo of the previous bridge at this location is shown below. This bridge was built ca. 1911 approximately a half mile east of this bridge, two of its spans collapsed in 1938, triggering construction of this bridge. According to the Oklahoma Bridges website, the pony truss bridge seen today was a companion to a separate bridge a short distance to the north. This additional bridge had eight spans of the same pony truss design. They were demolished when the 19 span bridge was bypassed.
