Information from Ontario Bridge Inventory: This bridge was rehabilitated in 1977 and 2011. Bridge width: 11 meters. Note that the 2011 project likely resulted in the loss of the original railings on the bridge.
This bridge looks similar from the road to other rigid-frame design bridges along this section of King's Highway 40. However a closer inspection of this bridge reveals that it is a two-span bridge and that the design of the beams does not feature a smooth arch shape. The shape of the beams is similar to those seen on box culverts. This bridge is also the largest of the bridges along this section of highway, and is the only one that crosses a creek other than Big Creek.
Unfortunately, a return to this area in 2013 showed that all these bridges lost their original railings, those having been replaced with ugly standard concrete barriers. As such, while these bridges technically are still extant, they no longer have any heritage or aesthetic value... considering that in Ontario this is not a rare bridge type, and that many other unaltered examples can still be found. The Historic Significance Rating applies to the bridge prior to loss of railing.
