This bridge is one of a small and decreasing number of surviving metal truss bridges in Norfolk County. Among the surviving bridges, this one is perhaps one of the least altered. There do not appear to be any alterations to the truss, including even minor alterations such as the replacement of rivets with bolts. Given the high level of historic integrity, this bridge would be a great recipient of an in-kind restoration. An in-kind restoration involves repairing the bridge in a manner that as much original material and design is retained as possible, and for elements beyond repair, they are replaced with exact replicas. In particular this would mean that failed rivets would be replaced with rivets, not with modern bolts as is commonly done. If floor beams were replaced, they would be replaced with the historically correct "American Standard Beam" style (which use sloped flanges) rather than modern wide flange beams. Despite the fact that this sounds expensive, in-kind restoration type repair is often comparable to a traditional rehabilitation. An in-kind restoration would bring this bridge to like-new condition. It would be able to support the weight it was originally designed for, which would enable it to serve at the very least light vehicular traffic, enabling this road to reopen to traffic.
A newspaper article listed the bridge as having a 1920 construction date. The 1920 date may not be exactly correct, but a ca. 1920 date might be accurate. Bridges of this style tend to date from 1905 to 1920, with a lot dating to ca. 1910-1915.
