This riveted pony truss bridge is located on a private driveway. It appears to have been relocated here from another location. It would appear that the span was longer than the owner wanted or needed. However the method of dealing with this fact appears to have been to simply bury the ends of the bridge in dirt. It is not known what the bridge rests on in terms of abutments, however it appears to be bearing improperly, which might explain why the center portion of the top chord has distorted and is lower than the ends of the top chord. Where the top chord drops down, the connection gusset plate appears to have numerous failed and missing rivets (likely broken off under the stress). Needless to say, this is not a good thing from a structural standpoint!
Time constraints did not allow for a conversation with the owner of the bridge to learn more about why the bridge was installed the way it was.
This bridge is on a private driveway but is right next to the public road and easy to view.
