Bridge Documentation

This bridge no longer exists!

Bridge Status: This heritage bridge was replaced and demolition is ongoing as of September 2021!

One of the rarest and most significant bridges in Ontario, even more rare in the context of northern Ontario, yet this bridge was demolished even though it was not in the way of its replacement. Pennsylvania truss highway bridges are rare in Ontario, multi-span examples are even more rare. This bridge also stood out among provincial highway bridges for its pre-1940 construction date and use of extensive lacing on its built-up members. The loss of this bridge is a devastating one of Ontario's transportation heritage, and it calls into question the future of other heritage bridges on this highway. Why not leave this bridge standing for its hertiage value and pedestrian use? All that demolition did was deprive the area of heritage and waste carbon and energy.

Lengths given are estimates.
