Bridge Documentation

This railway truss bridge is located a bit south of Smooth Rock Falls, and remains in good condition today.

A mix of British and American steel was used on this bridge including Dorman Long and Carnegie steel.

Thanks to Mathieu Martel for providing the following history. The bridge was built in 1910, six years before Smooth Rock Falls was established. It was the first structure built in the area around of what is now Smooth Rock Falls. Railways were how most early settlers got to northern Ontario, without them it would not have been colonized at that time. The bridge is named after the Jacksonboro colony who existed at that site from 1912-1930. There was also a German Prisoner of war work camp in Jacksonboro during World War 2.

Lengths given are estimates.
