Updates: In 2019, the bridge was fenced off to keep pedestrians off the bridge, perhaps due to the trail washout near the bridge. As of 2020, the bridge is open to pedestrians again.
This bridge is a beautiful concrete rainbow (bowstring) arch bridge. It was designed by noted engineer Frank Barber, who was an Ontario leader in introducing both concrete bridges in general and concrete bowstring arch bridges to Ontario. The bridge is largely unaltered, but is suffering from severe spalling in many areas. The time to rehabilitate this bridge is now. The bridge is on old alignment of Langstaff Road. The current alignment of Langstaff Road is to the south of this bridge, and it now crosses the river on a modern bridge. It appears that this heritage bridge continued to serve non-motorized traffic after being bypassed. However, even more recently, the river has eroded its banks north of this bridge, and the trail/road appears to be gone today.
