Stone arch bridges are not common in Ontario, therefore this bridge stands out as noteworthy. It is a great example of stone construction, and if you look closely you will see it was originally built as a narrower bridge for a single railway track, and later, an additional stone arch structure was added to one side to allow for a second set of tracks. Differences in the stonework are evidence of this: the two spandrel walls have differences in the appearance and style of the stones. Similarly, under the bridge, a transition is visible, a line where the stone changes: the southern half of the bridge is composed of smaller stones than the northern half. It is not certain which half is the older half. Both halves are examples of quality masonry.
