It is a bit of a surprise to find a full-size railway through truss span crossing such a small creek and a city street. However, this span crosses both the creek and the road at once, which provided a need of a span length that justified a truss span rather than other structure types that might otherwise be used, such as a plate girder.
The crossing is somewhat unusual also because the highway bridge over the creek is directly underneath the railway bridge.
There is evidence that this crossing has some history. Riveted lattice railings perhaps are a remnant of a previous highway bridge. As for the railway bridge, the 1939 dated concrete abutments are an enhancement of older stone abutments (still clearly visible) that were likely originally associated with an earlier bridge.
