Open spandrel deck arch bridges are very rare in Ontario. As such, even small, somewhat altered examples such as this one retain a high degree of historic significance in the context of Ontario. The bridge sits on abutments that incorporate the stone abutments of the previous bridge at the location. The stone abutments were widened with concrete to accomodate the arch bridge.
This bridge was rehabilitated in 2011. As part of the rehabilitation, the existing railings at the time were removed and replaced. The design of the removed railings did not appear to be the original railings, so this replacement did not reduce the historic integrity of the bridge. However, the new railings are of a modern design and do not attempt to replicate a period railing. Driving over the bridge it is not apparent that this is a heritage bridge.
