This is a regionally extremely rare surviving example of a highway deck truss, and is unusual nationwide as a short span deck truss. The bridge retains original lattice railings.
The bridge has been closed to traffic and is abandoned.
As of 2020, sadly, there are apparantly no plans for preservation or relocation/reuse of the bridge. The following project was proposed by the township in May 2020:
The project will involve retaining a Structural Engineer to assess the bridge's condition, provide a recommended timeframe for removal, comment on feasibility of removing the superstructure only, provide an opinion of probable cost, and comment on any regulatory implications. If left unchecked, at some point the condemned bridge will collapse into the Pine River, which would be highly irresponsible on the part of the Township. The purpose of the study is to determine the extent of the risk.
