Date given for this bridge is a circa date.
Compared to the rest of Ontario, this area (Wellington County / Centre-Wellington Township, Dufferin County / Amaranth Township), apparently constructed an unusually large number of old concrete bridges. As of 2015, the area still retained a population density of both concrete bowstring arch bridges and concrete through girder bridges that was much higher than the rest of Ontario. These bridges are being replaced as time goes by however.
This bridge is a representative example of the concrete through girder bridges that were built in this area. This simple, utilitarian-looking bridge type never gained popularity in bridge construction, but was built in the United States and Canada mostly in the 1910s and 1920s. Compared to the girder bridges found in Centre-Wellington Township, this one and others in Amaranth Township are more massive in design, and feature a visual appearance that is slightly different. They are visually similar to concrete girder bridges built in the neighboring state of Michigan.
