2019: Note: Another source located listed a 1959 construction date for this bridge, rather than 1956. It is not known which is correct.
This is one of two operable plate girder swing bridges in Smiths Falls. This bridge is electrically powered. It is strongly bobtailed, with only a short section extending north from the swing pier, away from the canal. The swing pier itself rests on short next to the canal. This arrangement is similar to other swing bridges on the canal. This bridge has a cantilevered sidewalk on the west side. This sidewalk has an old style metal grate deck that is clearly not modern, and may be original to the bridge. The sidewalk cantilevers are riveted and are original, but the rivets that attach them to the girder have been replaced with bolts.
