This bridge is one of a small number of unaltered truss swing bridges remaining on the Trent-Severn Waterway, a National Historic Site of Canada. Many of the truss swing bridges have been demolished and replaced, either with high level bridges or with modern bridges that may simulate the original swing bridge, but lack original material and design and thus have no heritage value. As such, the preservation of surviving examples should be given high priority. The Trent Drive Bridge in particular retains excellent historic integrity with no major alterations to the truss, although some rivets on the bottom chord have been replaced with bolts.
