Bridge Documentation

This bridge is barely old enough to have any historic value, but yet it tells a story of an era that is today long past. This bridge was once a swing bridge, but today has been deactivated, and is now acting as a stationary bridge.

The metal grate deck and the gates remain as indications to casual viewers that this was once a movable bridge. The more attentive viewer would also note the unusual central pier with the tell-tale gear. Finally, those who take time to venture under the bridge will find mechanical elements, such as gears and other moving parts that tell the story of a past era where this section of river had larger boats on it.

The bridge's plaque is located next to the bridge. This seems like an odd place for a plaque; it may have been originally been on the bridge tender building, which is now gone.
