This bridge at first glance might appear to be built to the same design as one of several remaining late 1950s rigid-frame overpasses such as the bridge on Norwich Avenue. However, this bridge is actually one of two nearby bridges that utilize an much more unusual rigid-frame design. The arch shape to the beams on this bridge is a smoother, more rounded shape. The other bridge is the Westminster Drive Bridge. This shape, unlike the other rigid-frame bridges on this section of highway, does not flow into the abutment in the same way either.
The Wellington Road Bridge retains good historic integrity, with the only major modification being the addition of the smaller size of Armco guardrails to the original decorative railings. The Ministry of Culture has recognized the historic significance of this bridge, although they were unable to halt MTO's plans to demolish this bridge. As such, the preservation of the Westminster Drive Bridge is paramount.
This historic bridge has been demolished. This map is shown for reference purposes only.
