When completed in 1947, this bridge was dedicated as the Princess Elizabeth Bridge, and as such the name of the bridge is an instant indication that the bridge dates to before Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth in 1952. The bridge features a Camelback truss configuration. At the connections, many rivets have been replaced with bolts. Additionally, the portal and sway bracing have been altered and reconstructed to increase vertical clearance. Also, some truss members have been replaced either in part or whole. Despite these alterations, the bridge remains a very picturesque structure that contributes positively to the surrounding landscape.
