Bridge Documentation

It is amazing how little attention this large, beautiful, and historically significant bridge seems to get. Perhaps it is because it crosses a small creek and people do not expect that such a large bridge crosses the substantially larger valley through which the creek flows. Perhaps it is because the trees that line the valley make viewing and photographing this bridge difficult. However, the fact remains that this is one of the most historically significant concrete arch bridges in Ontario. It is noted for its arch's span size. It has a single, large arch main span and a series of t-beam approach spans. It is also noted for its highly ornate design. The bridge has its original concrete balustrade railings with exposed aggregate composed of reddish rocks. The arch columns have an attractive shape to them. The t-beams and bracing between the arch ribs also have a simple, but attractive flared design at the ends. Finally, the bridge is noted for its lack of alteration. It retains original railings, arch rib, columns, t-beams, and even most of the concrete deck base looks original. The bridge was repaired in 2013. Hopefully this is evidence of a preservation commitment for this noteworthy bridge.

This bridge reportedly was built for a cost of $275,000.
