Bridge Documentation

This bridge is a small, slender arch bridge on the Toronto Islands, and which leads to the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. The exact date of construction is not known for this bridge. However, historical photos of the bridge were found as old as 1911. The style of the bridge suggests that perhaps these 1911 photos show the bridge soon after it was built. With a 1911 construction date, the bridge is an early surviving example of a concrete arch bridge.

Based on historical photos, it was sometime between 1911 and 1926 that for unknown reasons the original railings, which were an unusual concrete railing with "X" panels, were replaced with metal railings. These metal railings appear to be the railings that remain on the bridge to this day. The concrete railing end posts at the end of the bridge appear to be original however.
