When documented in 2016, this stretch of 9 Mile River was unusual because it had old bridges for each crossing, a total of four old bridges. It is unusual to have so many old bridges in one area. Three of the four were concrete girders with one metal truss bridge. All four bridges were part of a study in 2010, which was attempting to decide which bridges might be demolished and replaced, and which ones might be closed permanently. As such, some or all of these bridges may be at risk for demolition.
Of the three concrete girder bridges, this is the only one that is single span (the other two bridges have two spans). Additionally, it has the most unusual architectural detailing of the three, which is a decorative triangular cap on the top of the center portion of the girder.
This bridge was listed as being constructed ca. 1930-1940. If so, it is a late example of its type, and is the youngest of the three concrete girders discussed above.
