This bridge is a traditionally composed deck plate girder. It rests on stone abutments. The Grand River Heritage Bridge Inventory listed a ca. 1880 construction date for this bridge, but that date may refer to the substructure. It is possible the plate girder is newer. While plate girders were built in 1880, that were not as common and it would be somewhat unusual for one that old to survive today. At one time, a metal arch foot bridge was located next to this bridge. The historical 1956 photo below from the Wellington County Museum And Archives shows this previous bridge.
