Bridge Documentation

This is a late example of a vertical lift bridge. It bypassed the older and more historic bascule bridge to the south as part of a realignment of US-101. The bridge has an unusual layout, with its long approaches consisting of short pre-stressed concrete stringer spans, with one excption being that the span immediately northeast of the lift span is also a Warren pony truss span of a design similar to the lift span. The southwest approach does not include a span like this and instead immediately transitions to the concrete spans. It is not known why this one approach span was built as a fixed truss span. HistoricBridges.org only has distant views of this bridge from the bascule bridge to the south.
