This bridge features the longest span crossing the Monongahela River. It is also the only cable suspension bridge on the three big rivers in Pittsburgh. It is a very impressive structure. The towers look a lot taller when you stand right under them than they do when the bridge is viewed from a distance. These towers feature an attractive design that features a stepped appearance on the interior that has a bit of an art deco look to it. Otherwise, the bridge is an excellent example of a traditional suspension bridge. It also retains excellent historic integrity, with few alterations observed.
The bridge has 50 Feet (15.2 Meters) of navigation vertical clearance. The approach suspension spans are 275 Feet (83.8 Meters) each.
