This bridge is an uncommon example of a riveted Queenpost pony truss. The bridge was built by Nelson and Buchanan, who built a number of bridges in this region. The style of the bridge is similar to other bridges built by the company in the early 20th Century. There are a lot of welded repairs to the bridge, reducing the historic integrity of the bridge. The bridge has two commissioners plaques, one dated 1902 and another dated 1903, with some of the names different on each, suggesting the commissioners changed during the time the bridge was built, over 1902-1903.
Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The single-span, 43'-long and 12' wide riveted Pratt pony truss bridge was built in 1903 by prolific instate fabricator Nelson & Buchanan, but at an unknown date, it was rebuilt. The upper chords and end posts have channel and cover plate welded to them, and the original upper panel point gussets are welded to it. There are also welded connections at the lower chords. The bridge is a highly altered example of a very well represented technology in the county and region, and neither it nor its setting are historically or technologically significant. Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries a single lane road over a stream in a rural area of active farms and undistinguished early-20th century buildings.
