This small but attractive concrete arch bridge is considered eligible for the National Register of Historic Places on account of its relatively early construction date and good historic integrity which includes original railings and a marble plaque.
This bridge has a deck with a heavy camber that compliments the contours of the arch and adds to the aesthetic quality of the bridge. The ends of the railings are slightly flared as well, another visually pleasing aspect of the bridge.
Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The single span, 82'-long reinforced concrete deck arch bridge was designed and built by the county in 1908. It is finished with concrete parapets with incised panels that continue atop the wingwalls. It is an example of a type and design that was used by the county by at least 1907 and is one of 25 deck arch bridges dating from between 1902 and 1935 in Berks County. The bridge appears to be complete, and it is historically and technologically significant within the local context based on its completeness, length, and date of construction. One section of the parapet has been lost as a result of impact damage. Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries a 2 lane road over a stream in a sparsely developed, forested setting with modern houses. The area does not have historic district potential.
