This bridge is a small and traditionally composed example of a concrete arch bridge. Unfortunately, the bridge suffers from considerable spalling. However, it is noted for retaining its original materials and its beautiful balustrade railings stand out as noteworthy. The contractor, Trimpey and Whipkey is listed as being based in Casselman, Pennsylvania and Rockwood (Somerset County), Pennsylvania in other sources.
Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The county-designed, skewed, 56' long and 24.6' wide reinforced concrete deck arch bridge is finished with custom, Neo-Classical balustrades with urn-shaped balusters. It was built in 1921, and it exhibits sections of spalling on the end posts and arch ring that have resulted in the loss of original fabric. It is not an early example of its technology, and it is not located in a potential historic district. Neither the bridge nor its setting are historically or technologically significant. Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries a 2 lane road with 1 sidewalk over a stream in a area of undistinguished warehouse and service buildings on the north side and a vacant lot on the south side.
