This stone arch bridge is very old with an 1860 construction date. It has an uncommon elliptical shape to its arch spans. Unfortunately however the bridge was essentially encased in concrete which have hidden the bridge's beautiful stones.

Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge Inventory

Discussion of Bridge

The 3-span, 70' long and 22.5' wide stone arch bridge was built in 1861 and finished with low parapets that extend to the approach roads. The bridge is on a vertical profile. The entire structure has been encased with concrete (1956?), and it no longer has integrity of original design. Neither the bridge nor its setting are historically or technologically significant. It is located in a region with many complete and early stone arch bridges.

Discussion of Surrounding Area

The bridge carries a 2 lane road over a stream in a sparsely developed, forested setting that is a state game land reserve. There is a campground on the south side of the bridge. The stone mill on the north side has been significantly altered. Modern garage doors have been added.
