The Historic Bridge Inventory suggested this bridge might date to ca. 1910, but this was just a guess based on its construction. The actual date is unknown. The National Bridge Inventory gives a 1925 construction date, which seems too new, and while it could be a complete error, it could also indicate relocation of this truss to this site in 1925. A rehabilitation of unknown scope occurred in 1950 according to the National Bridge Inventory, and according to the Historic Bridge Inventory, in ca. 1996 additional repairs were made. Other than the fact that it was missing the deck, this was a truss bridge in decent condition, that deserved to be restored for light vehicular traffic. The bridge was noteworthy for its fairly heavy skew, which was very easy to note with the deck off, revealing the angle of the floor beams. The bridge retained original lattice railings. This bridge was truly in the middle of nowhere, although the area seemed to be a popular hideout for campers and fishing activities. In 2010, for reasons unknown, the bridge was demolished and replaced with a slab of concrete. The replacement was not even a two-lane bridge; it was only one lane wide, just like the historic bridge. True, a two-lane bridge was not needed for such a rural road, but if a one-lane bridge was needed, common sense suggests that rehabilitating the historic bridge would have been a great way to go. It may have cost less than replacement as well!
Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The riveted, single span, 54'-long, Warren with verticals pony truss bridge dates stylistically to ca. 1910. Ca. 1996 short steel angles were welded between the end posts and lower chords near the bearings, sections of the lower chords were replaced in kind, and the connections on a number of diagonals were changed from rivets to bolts. The bridge, an undistinguished example of its technology, has no innovative or distinctive details. Riveted truss bridges have been used in the state since ca. 1890. This altered example is not historically or technologically significant.
