This bridge is the smaller of two tied arch bridges that frame Pittsburgh's famous Point State Park. The tied arch features a trussed tie that supports a double-deck system on the bridge. The trussed tie follows the Warren truss configuration. The historic bridge proper consists of the main span and four approach spans. However the entire bridge system includes many more ramps and approach spans. These approach and ramp systems are actually quite a bit newer than the main bridge due to delays in construction projects. As such, the 1959 bridge was not actually opened to traffic until some of these were completed in 1969.

This bridge replaced one of the most beautiful and ornate bridges in Pittsburgh, the Manchester Bridge. The HAER documentation links above record this bridge.
