Bridge Documentation

View Archived National Bridge Inventory Report - Has Additional Details and Evaluation

HistoricBridges.org only has a few photos of this bridge taken while documenting a nearby stone arch bridge. The bridge is included here for reference and comparison purposes; the bridge is a good example of a standard bridge design that was being built in Pennsylvania during this period: a steel stringer bridge with attractive concrete balustrade railings. The bridge appears to retain good integrity and also has a noteworthy 50 degree skew.

Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge Inventory

Discussion of Bridge

The 3 span, 192'-long steel stringer bridge built in 1947 is supported on a concrete substructure. It has standard concrete balustrades on each side of the concrete deck. It has no innovative or distinguishing details and is an example of the most common, mid-20th century bridge type in the state. Neither the bridge nor its setting/context are historically or technologically noteworthy. It is one of over 4341 pre-1956 steel stringer bridges in Pennsylvania.

Discussion of Surrounding Area

The bridge carries a 2 lane state highway with a sidewalk over a stream in a forested setting with 20th century commercial development at one quadrant. The area does not appear to have historic district potential.
