This bridge is one of the two longest Berlin Iron Bridge Company lenticular truss spans (main span length, not overall length from multiple spans) in the country. The other one is abandoned in St. Lawrence County, New York. This bridge was rehabilitated 2008-2011 extensively to continue to carry vehicular traffic at a high weight limit. This project, mainly due to the reuse on a highway with a high weight limit, resulted in a lot of alterations and replacement of original bridge material. In particular the edge bracing beam that runs along the deck at each side of the bridge looks nothing like the original. Deck hangers, and some connection details are significantly different looking from the original. View the HAER documentation above to see photos from before the project. Despite alteration, the project is noteworthy because it did allow the bridge to remain open to vehicular traffic at a substantial weight limit. Thus, the bridge retains integrity of usage (vehicular traffic) at the expense of integrity of materials and design.
