This is an attractive arch bridge in a wooded setting. When HistoricBridges.org documented the bridge in 2007, the bridge retained excellent historic integrity, however dirt and asphalt added to the bridge had covered up the marble plaque, which prohibited the inspection of this bridge from revealing a builder/contractor.
HistoricBridges.org was pleased to learn that in 2010, PennDOT decided to rehabilitate this historic bridge for continued vehicular use, rather than demolishing and replacing it. The parapets and upper courses (rows) of stones on the bridge were either replaced or encased in concrete, but otherwise the bridge retains the rest of its historic integrity. One nice thing that was done was to relocate the covered up marble plaque and to place it on the new concrete parapets, allowing the text on the plaque to be read. The below post-rehabilitation photo was provided by Marlin Knisely, and a few additional post-rehabilitation photos are available in the photo gallery.
