This bridge is an extremely rare of an 1870s bowstring truss bridge in western Pennsylvania. Based on its design details, it is clearly the work of the King Iron Bridge Company of Cleveland, Ohio, built to that company's patented bowstring truss design. The history of this bridge is unclear. It is located on a private driveway. Often bridges like this were often relocated, and in particular such bridges on private drives were often indeed relocated. However, this bridge rests on very old stone abutments and as a result it is possible that this bridge is in its original location. It is not known if this driveway was always a private drive, or perhaps it was once a public road. In the bridge's more recent history, steel stringers were installed, along with a pier, to carry traffic. The trusses today are merely decorations, and are not load-bearing. Despite this severe alteration, the trusses themselves retain good historic integrity, and given the age, rarity, and significance of 1870s bowstring truss bridges, this bridge retains very high historic significance.
This bridge is on private property, but is accessible to the public (foot traffic only) because the landowner allows fishers to to park on the nearby public road and walk back to the bridge for fishing.
