This bridge is an example of a concrete arch overpass bridge, a design of overpass used in Pennsylvania, but uncommon elsewhere. This example has been widened on one side, but the other side was not widened and so retains its original material and detailing including modest architectural detailing in the form of inset squares on the top of the bridge.

Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge Inventory

Discussion of Bridge

The 1949, reinforced concrete closed spandrel filled deck arch bridge, built from a standard design plan adopted in 1940, has wingwalls, beam guiderail railings and an inscribed square decorative motif at the top of the spandrel wall. Beam guiderail railings frame the roadway. The bridge has no innovative or distinguishing details. Reinforced concrete bridges have been built on vehicular roadways since the early 20th century. Neither the bridge nor its setting and context are historically or technologically noteworthy.

Discussion of Surrounding Area

The bridge carries a 2 lane road and 2 shoulders over a township road in a sparsely developed, forested setting.
