This bridge is one of several tiny Parker pony truss bridges in this county. This bridge is quite a bit younger with a 1936 construction date, and the bridge's top chord and end posts are more heavily built-up than the other examples. As such, it is not known if this bridge is the work of the Penn Bridge Company as is suspected with the older examples. This bridge sits on stone abutments that undoubtedly are older than the bridge superstructure and originally supported a previous bridge.
Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The 1926, 55' long and 22' wide, riveted Parker pony truss is supported on ashlar abutments with wingwalls. The polygonal top chords are built up members, the lower chords are angles as are the vertical and diagonal members. The original lattice railing has been replaced with beam guide rail railings. An example of a standardized design, the bridge has no innovative or distinctive details, and neither it nor its setting are historically significant. Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries a 1 lane township road over a stream in a rural area of active farms at a T intersection west of Brave. The area is dominated by altered early through mid 20th century houses and trailers. It does not appear to have historic district potential. Bridge Considered Historic By Survey: No |
