Bridge Documentation

This bridge is a tiny but fairly early example of a reinforced concrete slab bridge. The bridge contains a very unusual stone plaque or marker on it with initials that may indicate who built the bridge, but they were not recognizable to HistoricBridges.org. It is also possible that the marker was salvaged from a previous bridge at this location.

Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge Inventory

Discussion of Bridge

The reinforced concrete slab bridge with concrete parapets is supported on stone abutments. The parapets have numerous spalls and patches. Built in 1915, the bridge is an example of a very common bridge type that was used with great frequency from the 1910s through the 1950s. Although a relatively early example in the county and region, the bridge does not have good integrity due to repairs to the parapets. It is one of over 750.

Discussion of Surrounding Area

The bridge carries a 2 lane road over a stream in a sparsely developed, rural area with scattered 19th- and 20th-century residences. The setting does not appear to have historic district potential.
