This is a decent sized single span stone arch bridge.
Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The 1895, single span, 40' long, stone arch bridge was built by the county in 1895, but it was widened ca. 1970 when reinforced concrete brackets were attached to the spandrel walls, and cantilevered deck sections were placed. They are sidewalks and are finished with modern steel railings. The bridge was originally laid up in ashlar masonry, and it has long wingwalls. Allegheny County erected 12 stone arch bridges between 1889 and 1905 and 8 to 10 survive. This is an altered example, and it is neither historically nor technologically significant. Earlier and more complete examples represent the bridge type in the county context (see 02 7427 0000 2814). Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries a 3 lane street with 2 sidewalks over a stream in an area dominated by undistinguished post-World War II strip commercial development, including 2 automobile dealerships west of the bridge. The bridge is separated from the older commercial area of Tarentum by SR 366, a four lane highway. The bridge is not located in a potential historic district.
