Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The 12-span, open-spandrel arch viaduct has 10 spans of 90' and 2 spans of 185', which are over the river. Reticulated parapets remain along both sidewalks, with luminaires mounted on higher concrete pylons. The bridge has been determined eligible for the National Register by PHMC. Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries a 3 lane city street over the Lehigh River, the abandoned Lehigh Canal, Conrail tracks on both sides of the river, and 2 city streets. The Tilghman Street Viaduct is located in an area of late-20th century industrial, commercial and residential uses. The area does not appear to have historic district potential, although the bridge does span over the abandoned right-of-way of the Lehigh Canal, listed as a historic district in 1979.
