Bridge Documentation

This bridge is an outstanding example of why Pittsburgh created an Art Commission that reviewed and adjusted bridge designs prior to approving construction. The intent of the commission was to avoid the construction of a bridge that looks like this! The ugliest bridge over a river in downtown Pittsburgh, this bridge is only included here for continuity of people wishing to tour the famous downtown Pittsburgh bridges. Unlike the Birmingham Bridge, which at least is a structure of notable type, a steel arch bridge, and thus worthy of a few photos, this bridge is not even worthy of HistoricBridges.org camera equipment, thus a Wikipedia photo appears here. Its massive girders block the view of more beautiful bridges in the city. As rare as this would be, it should be demolished and replaced with a modern bridge that at least harmonizes with the monumental/signature nature of every single other river bridge in downtown Pittsburgh. America is not known for designing attractive modern bridges, so it may make sense to seek out a European or Asian engineering firm to produce a modern bridge that is something other than the typical eyesores designed by the city's favorite consulting engineer, Michael Baker. Certainly a signature landmark bridge would be a better way of honoring the sacrifice of America's veterans than this bridge, which is more of an insult.
