This bridge is a six panel Pratt pony truss. While the Historic Bridge Inventory dismisses this bridge as a pin-connected bridge that was built when the riveted-connection era was in place, the bridge should still be considered historic because of the rapidly increasing rarity of pin-connected truss bridges from any era. As a pony truss structure in excess of 80 feet, it should also be considered to be of noteworthy length.
Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The 83' long and 14' wide pin-connected, Pratt pony truss bridge dates stylstically to ca. 1905. The trusses are traditionally composed, and the bridge has no innovative or distinctive details. Some rivets have been replaced with bolts. The bridge is a late and undistinguished example of what by ca. 1905 was retarditaire technology, and it is not historically or technologically significant. The setting does not appear to have historic district potential. Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries 1 lane of an unimproved township road over a stream in a rural area of active farms and scattered modern housing.
