Bridge Documentation

This bridge is configured as a pair of vertical lift superstructures which were built to accommodate the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway at the same time. The bridge motors to raise the bridge appear to be located on the lift span (span drive configuration). Given that the bridge was built in 1959, this is a relatively late presentation of this lift configuration as most engineers had started to design lift bridges with the motors located in the towers by the 1950s.
