This bridge is rare in South Carolina, both as one of a small number of surviving movable bridges in South Carolina, as well as a small number of surviving truss bridges in the state. The bridge's trusses are traditionally composed for a 1960s truss bridge, adapted to accommodate the needs and engineering forces of a swing bridge. The bridge has a long approach system of pre-stressed concrete spans with simple concrete railings. The bridge appears to retain good historic integrity, and it continues to open for boats as needed.
